I feel like this quarter passed by way too quickly. I’ve gone into summer holiday mode 3 weeks ago, and it doesn’t feel like the end of the school year at all. It took so much effort to get myself motivated to study for my AP exams. Also, it was definitely weird to take my exams in the middle of the night. Early today, I had AP statistics at 2 am, then I had to wake up at 6 am for something else. After that, I kind of just crashed, and I didn’t do anything for the rest of the day until now. I can’t wait to be back in Hawaii and have a normal senior year.
Would you rather teach a high school class or rather have your parents teach a high school class?
I would rather teach a high school class than have my parents teach a high school class. I feel like it will be really awkward seeing my parents around campus, and I don’t want teachers tattling straight to my parents if I make a mistake. However, I don’t think I will be a good teacher. It would be a fun experience though. I’ll just feel bad for all the students I have to teach.
What is the last movie you watched and what did you think of it?
The last movie I watched is “误杀 Sheep without a Sheperd”. Although it’s not a famous movie/ movie you can find in the cinema/Netflix, my friend played of one of the main characters in that film. She gave the private link and the password. I watched it more for my friend than the plot. It was a pretty good movie, the plot wasn’t the most unique. But I still enjoyed watching it. The movie was in 3 languages (Thai, Chinese and English) so I struggled a bit to understand some parts.

What is your dream job? What career do you possibly see yourself pursuing?
I would like to open a cake shop as my dream job. I’ve always wanted to open my own business. However, before opening a cake shop, I want to work in a hotel or a company for a few years. With that, I will be able to be financially sustainable. Then I will start the cake business as a side business. For university, I would like to study Hospitality, which is hotel management. Through that major, I will be able to study entrepreneurship and culinary art. Those two will be two major components in order for me to start a cake shop.
Day 3: Fun Friday Would you rather change jobs every few years or keep one job for the rest of your life?
I would rather change jobs every few years because I feel like I will get bored of one job. I enjoy change and meeting new people. Each time when I get a new job, I believe I will be able to be a better person. If I know I will get a new job every few years and the current job is bad, I will have hope that things will improve within the next few years. Whereas, if I have only one job for the rest of my life and I dislike it, I will be very miserable for the rest of my life.
Day 2: Thursday was the date of the May Day assembly. What is your favorite May Day memory? What do you miss most about the May Day assembly?
I don’t really know much about May Day. Watching last year’s assembly was my first time participating in May Day. I thought it was pretty interesting to see different styles of hula. I didn’t know much about the Hawaiian culture other than the stereotypical type we see on TV and movie before moving here. I love how there’s so much spirit and how much Hawaii embraces their culture. None of the other cities I’ve lived in has this much pride in their culture. I’m excited to see how this assembly goes tomorrow.
Day 1 (to be completed after Tuesday’s peer revisions): What was most helpful about today’s peer conferencing? What are your next steps?
I wasn’t in class today so I didn’t get a peer review. However, I did ask a senior friend to help me look over my essay. Because he got his college offers already, he has some experience in writing a good personal statement. He was able to give me very specific feedbacks and a lot of suggestions on how I can tweak my language. He told me which places I could elaborate and where I could cut down. For my next step, I will need to cut down the essay to fit the word limit.
Day 3: Fun Friday! If you could choose anything, what would you want the state to reopen first?
I want school to reopen first because that will be the only reason I can return to Hawaii. I’m tired of staring at my computer screen all day, and I miss seeing my friends in person. I would have probably never said this before, but I miss living in the dorms. (Not the dorm rules part). It was so much fun living with my friends, having study hours together and blasting music in the showers. There were six of us living on the 5th floor and we all became so close. They were my second family.
Day 2: What is one thing that has changed for you during this time of COVID19? You cannot say that you have to stay inside! Try to think of something unique to your situation.
I’ve been going out for a run every single day with my dad. I feel kind of guilty for that, but I am also social distancing. We drive out to Sentosa, a resort island, where it’s quite empty right now. (It’s crazy seeing how empty it is as it used to be so crowded.) It is also legal in Singapore to go out for a run, at least for now. Going out for a run everyday keeps me mentally sane, and it also allows me use up all my unused energy. As school ends at 9 am for me, it feel like I have a whole day to myself. Back when I was living in the dorms, right after school, I either get some work done or extra help, 4:00 pm track and/or dance, rest for 30 minutes, 6:30 mandatory dinner check in, 7:10 shower, 7:30 study hours then 11:00 sleep. My routine was super structured. I’m not used to having so much freedom with my time. I try to keep a daily to-do list or else I will procrastinate and get nothing done the whole day.
