I don’t really know much about May Day. Watching last year’s assembly was my first time participating in May Day. I thought it was pretty interesting to see different styles of hula. I didn’t know much about the Hawaiian culture other than the stereotypical type we see on TV and movie before moving here. I love how there’s so much spirit and how much Hawaii embraces their culture. None of the other cities I’ve lived in has this much pride in their culture. I’m excited to see how this assembly goes tomorrow.

May Day is definitely a prime example of how Hawaii embraces its culture. And real hula, as you said, is very different from what you might see in TV and movies. I really enjoy May day and also think it’s so interesting to see a variety of dances. It’ll be different this year for sure but will still be fun to watch!
